About the classes

Our Tango Story

Camila Fontan and Matías Díaz met in July 2009, united by a common passion: tango and teaching. Although at that time they were both teaching independently, they shared a more ambitious dream: to create a special space for the tango community, where new generations of dancers and tango lovers could develop and grow artistically.

In June 2010, they made this dream come true by renting a venue on Avenida Estado de Israel, in the neighbourhood of Almagro, Buenos Aires. During the first five years, Abrazando Tangos established itself as a hotbed of talent and a meeting point for the young tango community.

By 2015, Camila and Matías wanted to go one step further and create their own tango school. With a lot of effort and the support of family and friends, they physically built their own cultural space, which they called Cinco Esquinas, located in the Colegiales neighbourhood. This multi-space became home not only to their project, but also to other organisers offering milongas and practices such as Dos Orillas, Chau Papusa and El Fierrazo.

Cinco Esquinas closed its doors in October 2019, after having hosted more than 350 milonga nights and having incorporated more than 200 new dancers to the milonguero circuit.

Since 2022, Camila and Matías have been living in Switzerland, where they continue to expand their project and their tango school, forming new tango communities in different parts of the world.

Teaching methodology

The tango classes are designed for students to discover and understand the details that make this dance both elegant and unique. Through a personalised approach, including group sessions, each student is guided to acquire the fundamental concepts in a short period of time. The aim is to offer individualised support, ensuring that each student progresses through the learning process at their own pace.

The figures, steps and techniques taught are closely linked to musical concepts, rhythmic phrases and orchestral examples, recreating authentic milonga situations. In addition, complementary audiovisual material is provided to reinforce and deepen the knowledge acquired during the classes.
